Citrus fruits, fizzy drinks, sports drinks, and even fruit juices can soften and erode your enamel over time. Once enamel is lost, it does not grow back. Erosion makes teeth more vulnerable to decay because the protective layer is literally thinner. You do not need to avoid these foods entirely, but it helps to be mindful — and rinsing with water after helps.

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day also makes a significant difference.


Sticky Foods Are a Hidden Risk

Dried fruits, toffees, and chewy sweets stick to your teeth for a long time. Even if you brush later, that prolonged contact gives bacteria more time to produce acid. If you do indulge, brushing about 30 minutes after — not immediately, as enamel is softened temporarily after eating — is the best approach.

You do not need to give up all the foods you enjoy. Swapping sugary snacks for cheese, drinking water instead of fizzy drinks between meals, and avoiding constant grazing throughout the day can dramatically improve your dental health over time.
