Denplan is the most well-known dental payment plan in the UK. It is run by Simplyhealth, a company that has been handling dental payments for decades. Rather than paying one large lump sum for treatment, you pay a fixed monthly amount. This spreads the cost and often includes routine check-ups and hygiene visits.

What Denplan typically includes

Most Denplan schemes cover routine examinations, scale and polish, and X-rays as part of your monthly fee. Emergency dental treatment abroad is often included too. The exact benefits depend on which plan you choose — there are different levels available.

What is not included is usually the same across all plans. Major treatments like crowns, bridges, or implants require separate payment. You are buying routine maintenance, not comprehensive cover for everything.

What you will pay

Denplan fees vary based on your oral health needs. If you need lots of treatment, your monthly fee will be higher. If your teeth and gums are healthy, you will pay less. There is no set price — your dentist assesses your needs and recommends an appropriate plan.

As a rough guide, expect to pay between £15 and £40 per month for most routine plans. The exact figure depends on your individual assessment.

Is Denplan good value?

Denplan works well if you want the security of regular dental care without surprise bills. Knowing your monthly cost in advance helps with budgeting. Regular attendance also means problems get spotted early, which can save money on extensive treatment later.

But Denplan is not the only option. Some practices offer their own in-house membership plans that may work out cheaper. It is worth comparing what is available locally before committing.

The key thing to understand

Denplan is a payment collection service — it helps you spread costs. It does not change the quality of treatment you will receive. Your dentist still decides what treatment you need. You are simply paying for it differently.
